Abstract Epoxy resins are widely used in the fields of coatings, adhesives, insulating materials, construction, etc. However; their end- use applications are limited due to the inherent brittleness, and some applications require high mechanical and thermal properties Acrylic resin is the most commonly used material for the construction of denture due to esthetics, ease of manipulation and low cost. However, this material is not ideal because of its relatively low mechanical strength, which can cause the fracture of the denture. Nanocomposites are a new kind of materials for which at least one dimension of the dispersed particles is in the nanometer range. Because of the nanometer size effect, nanocomposites have unique properties not shared by their conventional microcomposite counterparts. This Thesis details the synthesis and characterization of Polymer/ zinc oxide nanocomposites using different polymer specially epoxy resins and heat cured polymethy methacrylate denture base resins to overcome the drawbacks of these materials. |
