Abstract

Thirty adult albino rats were used in the present study to evaluate
the possible role of natural antioxidants (GSE) on expermintaly induced
gastric ulcer by acetyle salicylic acid. They were divided into five main
groups:
 Group I (Control group): consisted of 10 rats. They were further
subdivided into:
-Subgroup Ia (negative control): consisted of 5 rats. They were kept
without any treatment and served as control for all experimental
groups.
-Subgroup Ib (positive control group): consisted of 5 rats. Each rat
was received a single dose of 3 ml of 1% carboxymethyle cellulose
dissolved in distilled water.
 Group II (GSE group): consisted of 5 rats, they received GSE in a
dose of 250 mg/kg/day orally by gavage for 10 days.
 Group III (Aspirin induced gastric ulcer group): consisted of 5 rats.
They were fasted 24 hours then received a single dose of 300 mg/kg
BW of aspirin dissolved in 3 ml of 1% carboxymethylcellulose orally
by gavage.
 GroupIV (GSE treated group):
Consisted of 15 rats. They were further subdivided into three
subgroups:
 Subgroup IVa: consisted of 5 rats. Each rat received GSE in a dose
of 250 mg/kg/day orally by gavage for 10 days. One hour after
administration of the last dose each rat received a single dose of
aspirin.
