Abstract Preterm birth is an obstetric problem that may result in low-birth weight or premature infants, these surviving infant are more likely to sustain neurological and developmental sequelae such as cerebral palsy, mental retardation and visual and auditory disorders. In United States of America, for example, there are nearly half a million preterm births in each year which comprise an economic and social burden on health service there. Preterm labour is labour resulting in live birth before 37 completed weeks (259 days) of gestational age. The incidence of preterm birth had gradually increased over the last few decades (8.9% in 1980 to 12% in 2002). Preterm premature rupture of the membranes (PPROM) is antecedent to approximately one third of theses births. This prospective cohort study was conducted at Almenoufia Hospital on 500 pregnant women in second trimester. Our study showed that: The age ranged from 22.0 to 38.0 years old with the mean of 28.153.56 years. Most of the studied cases 337 (64.4%) were multi gravidity.
