Abstract Miscarriage is the spontaneous loss of the conceptus before 20 weeks of gestation. Recurrent pregnancy loss is also associated with several autoimmune diseases, most notably systemic lupus erythematosus and antiphospholipid syndrome and also thyroid autoimmunity. The relation of thyroid autoimmunity to miscarriage is an important issue that has attracted the interest of many investigators. Most studies have shown a significant positive association between the presence of thyroid autoantibodies and miscarriage rate. Thyroperoxidase antibody (TPO Ab) positivity is considered as high risk for pregnancy complications. The present study aimed to evaluate the relationship between thyroid autoimmunity and obstetrics outcome in women with recurrent miscarriage. This study included 200 patients aged from 21 to 35 years old, less than 20 gestational weeks, divided into two groups:- - Group (A): 100 pregnant patients with a history of miscarriage twice or more. - Group (B): 100 pregnant patients with no history of miscarriage (control group). Patients were recruited from the outpatient clinic of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Menoufia University hospitals. Patients with any uterine pathology or the presence anatomical or functional cervical abnormalities or with any autoimmune diseases or undergoing treatment for thyroid dysfunction must be excluded. |
