Abstract

Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women worldwide. Statistically, breast cancer is the most common female malignancy among Egyptian women as recorded by National Cancer Institute (NCI), Egypt. Breast cancer represents about 38% of all reported cancer cases in Egyptian females, with an average age of 49.6 per 100,000 populations, with higher incidence in urban areas compared to rural areas.
Egyptian breast cancer patients are characterized by high mortality rate (20.1 per 100,000) compared to USA (14.7 per 100,000).
It should be noted that breast cancer in the Arab region has shown to present a decade earlier than western countries.
There are many tumor markers that may be produced by the tumor itself, by the surrounding normal tissue in response to the presence of tumor or by the tissue of metastases.
It is used in; Screening a healthy population at a higher risk, Making a diagnosis of cancer, Determining the prognosis in a patient with cancer and Monitoring efficacy of antitumor treatment.
There for in our thesis we aim to analyze whether there is any correlation between preoperative serum tumor markers CEA and CA 15-3, age of the patients, TNM-staging and hormone receptor (ER, PgR) status in patients with breast cancer.
