Abstract Prenatal diagnosis and treatment of fetal disorders and structural malformation is becoming important because 3.0% of all pregnancies result in the delivery of an infant with a genetic disorder or birth defect. The aim ofthis study was to assess the level of awareness about fetal therapy interventions among pregnant women and evaluate its utilization. Design, A descriptive exploratory was adopted in this study. Setting, study sample were recruited from obstetrics and fetal therapy clinics at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Results, Women’s awareness and attitude about fetal therapy was higher among who underwent perinatology, followed by those who had no fetal problems then women who had fetal problems. Higher education correlates with increasing awareness level. Being a carrier for genetic disease is a common indication of fetal intervention. Chorionic villi sampling and amniocentesis were common interventions, 60.0% of pregnant women underwent fetal therapy were continued to delivery and 72.0% of their babies were normal. Conclusion, it is concluded that ,the level of awareness and attitude scores among Saudi women is merely average. Results of fetal diagnostic interventions indicated in many cases to terminate pregnancies, but the majority of women were satisfied with interventions. Recommendation, public health awareness programs should be carried in the universities and in public places to raise the awareness about health and social benefits and the religion related issues of fetal therapy. |
