Abstract Hepatocellular carcinoma is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in Egypt,The incidence of HCC is rising worldwide being currently the fifth most common cancer and third cause of cancer-related mortality . Its prognosis is poor and early detection is important to improve the prognosis Alpha-fetoprotien (AFP) has been used as a serum marker for HCC for many years.AFP level may be normal in up to 40% of patients with HCC and elevated AFP level may be also seen in patients with cirrhosis or exacerbation of chronic hepatitis Endoglin and IL-6 have been identified in the serum of patients with hepatocellular arcinomas, and can be used as serological markers for the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma. Hence, Endoglin and IL-6 are promising new serum markers for HCC. The aim of The present study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of serum Endoglin level and serum IL-6 level in HCC patients with underlying cirrhosis compared to AFP which is the reference marker for HCC. This study was carried on total number of 70 subjects including 60 patients selected from inpatients and outpatients who attended Tropical Medicine Department in Tanta University |
