Abstract

1:-Introduction: - Drying is the most commonly used process in the wastewater treatment plants; and that is due to the easy procedures of transportation from the plant and reuse. One of drying stages is ”Thickening by Flotation”. This method is a quick compared to the other ways which are easier to use and save the area and energy. On the other hand, ”Pressurized air Flotation” is considered to be the most commonly used method; in addition, new research has recently appeared with regard to this method, using compressed Carbon Dioxide and compressed Nitrogen to increase the efficiency of the flotation.<:- Research scope: - This research aims to thicken waste activated sludge (WAS) by using micro-bubbles of carbon dioxide gas chemically prepared.:- Research objective: - This thesis will study the impact of using the micro-bubbles of chemically prepared carbon dioxide gas on the sludge floating and thickening Improve the thickening of the Waste Activated Sludge (WAS) through the use of chemicals.- Reduce the time needed for drying the Waste Activated Sludge (WAS) Minimize the total area of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).- The study includes five chapters as follows:Chapter (1) IntroductionThis chapter displays a brief discussion regarding the main objectives to be achieved in this study.Chapter (2) Theoretical Overview and Literature Review This chapter introduces a background about the processes of sludge separation and floatation systems. In addition, it also displays an overview about the alternative methods of sludge thickening using the different gases.Chapter (3) Materials and MethodsThis chapter addresses the following:The formation of the proposed system used in this study, and its method of working, describing the different operations of this system. The materials used in the sludge thickening system. The devices used to measure the various parameters, and how they function.Chapter (4) Results and Discussion This chapter displays the results of the sludge thickening study; in addition to the discussion of these results. Chapter (5) Conclusion This chapter discusses what could be concluded after completing this study; in addition to the researcher’s recommendations for future works.5:- Summary of Study:- In this research, a new method is introduced for “sludge thickening” by generating carbon dioxide gas instantaneously in media, by adding hydrochloric acid and sodium bicarbonate. The laboratory results have shown the following: after adding the amount of (6 g/L) of sodium bicarbonate, plus (12ml/L) of hydrochloric acid we get the best results.W used different temperature degrees (15, 27, 35)oC respectively; to study the effect of temperature on the final solid content of the sludge by using three different contents 1.414, 1.228, 1.103%. It was found that increasing the temperature increase the final solid content concentration. Also, reduce the concentration of solid content of sludge reduce final concentration.
