Abstract

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories are used extensively in veterinary field in conjugation with antibiotics for treatment of various infectious diseases. Carprofen and tolfenamic acid are used as analgesics, anti-inflammatory and anti-pyretic. Thirty of clinically healthy sheep were used in this study were divided into three groups ,the first group kept as control ,second group was medicated with carprofen (2mg/kg s.c), the third group medicated with tolfenamic acid (2mg/kg i.m).Blood samples were collected after 1st,2nd and 3rd weeks post dosing. Blood samples collected on anticoagulant for routine hematological study .Other blood samples were collected without anti-coagulant and allowed toclot and clear serum samples were separated for determination of biochemical and immunological parameters.
The obtained results as follows:
Carprofen: non-significant changes on (Hb, RBCS, pcv), but showed significant decrease in white blood cells, total protein, albumin, globulin, serum urea and creatinine. Significant increase on the activity of liver enzymes (ALT, AST).Significant decrease in serum (IgG, IgM)Significant
.Tolfenamic acid:Significant decrease in hemoglobin content,white blood cells, total protein, albumin, globulin, and serum urea and creatinine .Significant increase in the activity in liver enzymes. Significant decrease in immunoglobulin (IgG) at first week, then significant increase at second week post dosing.
