Abstract

The purpose of this study is to use some applicable methods to know when and how much irrigation water applied, scheduler irrigation for maize crop under egyptian ciimate conditions at experimental farm (30’ 02- n latitude, 31’ 08- e longitude) for two seasons summer and autumn. The maize (10 hyper) was planted under the furrow and drip irrigation system. Two water regimes were used with three level of water the 10, 25 and 50% for soil moisture depletion (smd) using time domain refractometery (tdr) and 1.25, 1 and 0.75 for evapotranspiration (et). On the meantime the et was calculated using cropw at program. Two methods infrared thermometer (ir) and laser beam transmission lbt) were used in scheduling irrigation, infrared thermometer method depending on measure emitted ir from maize leaves in the field at different plant ages under the different treatments, laser beam transmission method depending on measure light transmission through maize leaves which consider the moisture content in the canopy leaf at different plant ages. The results indicated that the canopy temperature around maize leaf decreased with high, water regimes 10% of smd and 1.25 et. So the best time for irrigation when the different temperature between air and canopy temperature (dt) is very small (o-ic).the values of laser beam transmission increased by decrease of the smd so the best time to irrigate according to use of lbt when range between 30 to 35 mv at water regimes 10٪of smd and 1.25 et. The crop water use efficiency (cwue) was 1.22 and 1.47 kg/m’ under furrow and drip irrigation system with fully irrigation regimes in the summer. Meanwhile, it was 1.38 and 1.56 kg/rrr’ under furrow and drip irrigation system in the autumn. The traditional methods of furrow irrigation gave low cwue; it was 1.0 kg/m’ in the summer and autumn season. In the summer, the yield crop were increased 621.83 and 596.13 kg/fed, with increased in used water 8 and 210m3 ifed for drip and furrow irrigation system at 10% smd respectively, compared with traditional furrow method. In the autumn, the yield crop were increased 802.7 and 474.3 kg/fed, with save water 168 and 48 m3/fed for drip and furrow irrigation system at 10٪smb respectively, compared with traditional furrow method.
