Abstract 57 73 v This study examines the feminist stylistic devices employed by three American short story writers to reveal how the psychological point of view in narration and the frustration of the female are represented linguistically. The study relies on an eclectic feminist stylistics approach from previous works on stylistics, semantics, and pragmatics to depict the stereotypical ideas about the female protagonists and their linguistic behavior. The suggested model stresses the psychological point of view of the female. The data selected is from the American literature, the cradle of the feminist movement. The data is charlotte Gilman Perkins’ The yellow wallpaper (1892), Kate Chopin’s The story of an hour (1894),and William Faulkner’s A rose for emily (1930). The analysis covers the discourse, the sentence, and word levels. Key Words: Feminism, Language and Gender, Stylistics, Point of View, Feminist Stylistics. |
