Abstract

The long-term production history of the multi-plays Gulf of Suez (GOS) basin, it still the most prolific oil producer province in Egypt. This basin which contains more than 80 oil fields occupies the first rank in term of cumulative and daily production in comparison with the WesternDesert basins and Nile Delta of Egypt.
East ZeitField is the area of the present study which is located offshore in the southern part of the Gulf of Suez region, as a part of the Red Sea rift province.
East ZeitField production started inDecember, 1985 after drilling several exploratory wells by different companies.
East Zeit oil Field is a multi-reservoir producer field; produced oil from Miocene; (Kareem, Rudies and Nukhul)formations as well as the Mesozoic; (Matulla Formation) and Paleozoic (Nubia Sandstone). The majority of the oil production in East ZeitField comesfrom the massive Nubia Sandstone reservoir.
The main target of the current study is to introduce East ZeitField as one of the important fields in the southern province of the Gulf of Suez, highlight the stratigraphic position of its rock units, describe its structural system, and discuss the biostratigraphic characterization of its reservoirs.
In addition to the above mentioned targets; the current study was dealt with the reservoir characteristics and fluid patterns of the study area and also discusses the hydrogeochemical system and water type of the oil-connate waters of all producer reservoirs in East ZeitField.
The current study focused on the Kareem Formation as one of the main producing reservoirs in the field, considering its stratigraphy, structure and depositional environment and used all the available data electric logs, cutting samples, cores description and reports and biostratigraphic data.
Since the formation of the oil reservoir and after the migration of the hydrocarbon trapped inside this reservoir there is water accompanied with this processes. The relationship between the different types of water can explain the change in parameters of the oil-connate water and help define the origin of the current oil-connate water and if it is mixed with the sea or ground water or stayed in a closed system.
The importance of the hydrochemical parameters of the oil-connate water is considered in this study.I analyzed the hydrochemical parameters of the oil-connate water of the study area and correlated these parameters and the other nearby oil fields parameters to find the nearest match in the Gulf of Suez and also determine the relationship between the oil-connate water from the oil bearing reservoir and its applicability as an indicator to the source rock.
The chemical parameters and physical properties of the crude oil and oil types in East ZeitField in the Gulf of Suez from both Miocene Kareem Formation and Paleozoic Nubia Sandstone reservoirs have different oil type and oil sources.
