Abstract

This research presents an experimental and analytical study in the Verification of Depth-To-Span Ratio Limitations in Deep Beams by Using Light Weight Concrete. Four medium scale beams were statically tested to failure under a concentrated load and one beam tested by using Reinforced Ordinary Concrete. The Beams dimensions and Type of Concrete, shear reinforcement, loading type were the test parameters.
As for the theoretical investigation in this study, an analytical model using the FE method was developed for the tested specimens using the nonlinear package “Abaqus6.10”. The model was also validated through comparisons with key experimental results and, hence, can be used with confidence to conduct future parametric studies. The model was then verified against the experimental results and showed very good agreement with the test data.
7.2.Conclusions
The experimental investigation which was carried-out in this study led to the following conclusions:
1 – Lightweight concrete could be a best material for construction if we could reach a concrete strength not less than 25 MPa.
