Abstract

the past review about factors that may interfere or affect the response
to anti viral therapy in chronic hepatitis C viral infection it was stated that
obesity and metabolic syndrome considered on of the most important and
modifiable factors that can positively affect the patient response to the therapy
So the current study was designed to determine the effect of weight reduction on
clinical outcome of obese patients with chronic hepatitis C virus
Research setting:
The current study was conducted at the outpatient of both tropical and
interferon therapy clinic in all of Menofia University Hospital, National Liver
Institute and Shebin El kome Teaching hospital.
Subjects of the study:
Subjects of this study was consisted of 60 patients from both gender
diagnosed with chronic hepatitis C virus planned for combined interferon and
ribavirin therapy they were selected randomly and divided alternatively into 2
equal group each of 30 patients as the following :
Study group (1): Study group include 30 obese chronic hepatitis C virus
patients planned for combined interferon and Ribavirin therapy, they were
managed by weight reduction program through diet and walking exercise as they
were on 2432.7± 714.1 mean calories intake at the beginning of interferon
therapy and have half an hour walking exercise per day
Control group (2): Control group includes 30 obese chronic hepatitis C
virus patients planned for combined interferon and Ribavirin therapy they were
left on their usual routine outpatient care regarding diet as they were on 4310.7± 1587.6) mean calories intake at the beginning of interferon therapy and
physical activity
The following research hypothesis was formulated in attempt to full fill the
aim of the study:
* Obese subjects who adhere to weight reduction program through diet therapy
and walking exercise will be expected to have normal serum
aminotransferases, correction of dyslipidemia as well as improve viral
response rates better than obese subjects who fail to adhere to weight
reduction program and so will achieve more improved clinical outcome.
