Abstract The outbreak of diseases is a limiting factor in fish culture. At many fish farms and hatcheries several antibiotics, vaccines, and chemotherapeutic agents as well as some immunostimulants have been used to prevent viral, bacterial, parasitic, and fungal diseases. The present study was carried out to investigate the effect of nutmeg powder and its aqueous extract on biochemical parameters , immune parameter and the antioxidant capacity of Oreochromis niloticus. The experimental design was conducted on two phase. Phase I, a total number of five hundred and twenty five (525) fish were divided into seven equal groups. G1 was fed on control diet. While, G2, G3, and G4 groups were fed treated diet contained (400, 800, and 1200 mg Myristica fragrans aqueous extract/kg diets) respectively and G5, G6 and G7 groups were fed treated diet contained (1, 2, and 3 % of Myristica fragrans powder) respectively for two weeks. Phase II was done after two weeks feeding. All groups except control were divided into two subgroups; subgroups I were continued on the same feeding regime while subgroups II were switched to control basal diet. All subgroups were fed for another 6 weeks. Blood and liver samples were collected at 1, 2, 4, and 8 weeks of feeding. The following parameters were determined: 1- The immune parameters including lysozyme, respiratory burst effect (NBT) and IgM. 2- The biochemical parameters including total protein , albumin , globulin,(A/G) ratio. 3- haematochrit level . 4-The antioxidant parameters including glutatathione . S.transferase (GST).; super oxide dismutase(SOD) and catalase. |
