Abstract

The protective effect of subsequent pretreatment with PLF ext or GBE or PLF ext and GBE in liver and brain tissue of experimental rats exposed to Hepatic encephalopathy induced by i.p. administration of TAA, through evaluation of the following blood and liver and brain tissue biochemical parameters:-Plasma ammonia level, Activity of Serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphates (ALP) and gamma glutamyl-transferase (GGT), concentration of serum Albumin and total Protein, Liver and Brain tissue concentration of L-Malondialdehyde (MDA) and reduced glutathione (GSH) and activity of antioxidant enzymes catalase (CAT), concentration of Liver tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF-α) , Interleukin – 6 ( IL-6), Cyclooxygnase (Cox2) and myeloperoxidase activity (MPO) and finally concentration of Brain Nitric oxide (NO) , B-Amyloid and Acetylcholinesterase. Furthermore, histopathological changes of the liver tissue and Brain were also investigated.
80 male albino rats (150-200 g) were used in this study. Animals were obtained from the National Centre for Radiation Research and Technology (NCCRT), Cairo, Egypt. The animals were housed in cages and maintained under standard conditions of ventilation, temperature and humidity. Animals received standard food pellets and water ad libitum.
