Abstract
The primary concern of this dissertation IS to emphasize the psychological impact of the First World War on the fiction of Virginia Woolf, Susan Hill, and Pat Barker. The selected novels are Woolfs Mrs. Dalloway (1925), Hill’s Strange Meeting (1971), and Barker’s War Trilogy (1991-1995). The selection of these works supports the theme of the study so much. The study is divided into an introduction, four chapters and a conclusion. Chapter One presents the theoretical background of the thesis. Chapter Two analyzes Virginia Woolfs Mrs. Dalloway. It shows the bad effects of the First World War on man’s psyche. Chapter Three discusses Susan Hill’s Strange Meeting through the relationship between John Hilliard and
David Barton. Chapter Four examines Pat Barker’s War Trilogy. It displays a large number of shell-shocked characters. The conclusion sums up the main findings of the study.
