Abstract Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is an acute and highly contagious disease of domestic and wild cloven-hoofed animals. The disease causes huge economic impact on infected countries mainly due to constraints on international trade in animals and animal products. There are seven serotypes of FMD virus (FMDV), namely O, A, C, SAT 1, SAT 2, SAT 3, and Asia 1. Infection with any one serotype does not confer immunity against another. In Egypt, FMDV serotypes O, A and SAT2 were endemic causing several outbreaks. FMD diagnosis includes virus isolation, ELISA, RT-PCR and recently detection of antibody against nonstructural proteins using ELISA that differentiate between infected animals and the others vaccinated. So, our study was conducted to investigate the serological pervasiveness of Foot and mouth disease virus (FMDV) in in Kalubeya Governorate during 2013-2014. The applied experiments revealed that: 1. Antibodies against FMDV nonstructural protein using FMD Blocking ELISA in cattle and buffalo were 80 (40%), 60 (30%), out of 200 serum samples for each species. 2. Studying seroprevalence of antibodies against different serotypes of FMDV using competitive ELISA and SNT: A- For cattle sera a total of 102 and 52 out of 200 (51% and 26%) were positive for antibodies against FMDV serotype O using ELISA and SNT, respectively. For antibodies against serotype A FMDV, cattle sera showed positive results with a total of 35 and 17out of 200 (17.5% and 8.5%) using ELISA and SNT, respectively. For antibodies against serotype SAT2 FMDV, cattle sera showed positive results with a total of 43 and 22 out of 200 (21.5 % and 11 %) using ELISA and SNT, respectively. |
