Abstract Post term pregnancy is defined as a pregnancy that extends to 42 weeks and beyond. Recent studies have shown that the risks to the fetus and to the mother of continuing the pregnancy beyond the estimated date of delivery is greater than originally appreciated so induction of labor is important In our study we use oral misoprostol in cervical ripening and labor induction in post term pregnancies The results of the study were tabulated and statistically analyzed and revealed the following Oral misoprostol appear to be effective method for cervical ripening Subjects received oral misoprostol had significantly shorter time interval from study entry to onset of spontaneous labor and to delivery when compared with the control group Subjects received oral misoprostol had significantly higher frequency of vaginal delivery when compared with the control group There were no significant differences in neonatal out come between the two groups• There were no significant difference in maternal morbidity and mortality between the two groups. |
