Abstract This essay aims to highlight the advances in different radiological imaging being a part of both diagnosis and management of many medical conditions, advances in the complexity of the procedures and the involvement of clinically unstable patients with significant comrbidities .Anaesthesiologists as a vital member of the clinical team are aimed to deliver a high quality care for the safety of these patients. It implifies the role of anaesthesiologist in the different advances in radiological procedures both the diagnostic and therapeutic interventions . Diagnostic imaging methods such as the Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) may require the anaesthetic attendance for example for some paediatrics and elderly patient who needs to be sedated without movements to undergo the study. Anaestheic attendance became essential nowadays with advances in the interventional radiological procedures such as Endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography (ERCP), Percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography (PTC) , interventional vascular procedures , interventional cardiac procedures such as cardiac catheterization and neurointeventional radiology as for coiling and clipping of aneurysms . All this procedures involve a variety of critically ill patients rendering the whole intervention to be very risky , making the anaesthetic attendance mandatory to the procedure. |
