Abstract This study was done at chest department of Sohag University Hospital during the period between March 2013 to February 2014 and included two hundred patients 70% were males ,30 % were females with mean age 58.47± 12.833 year Regarding smoking among the studied patients 21% were current smokers , 55% ex-smokers,24% non smokers. In this study we found that were statistically significant differences in age groups among COPD patients withFrequency of exacerbation as Patients above 60 yearsold had more Frequent exacerbations of than other. There were relation betweenChronic cough and sputum production and Frequency of exacerbation in the studied cases as most patients with chronic cough and sputum production developed frequentexacerbations. There were relation between Frequency of exacerbation and Pulmonary function as Frequency of exacerbation increased in patients with severe and verysevere airflow obstriction . BODE index scors also affect Frequency of exacerbation thatincreased with high scores. Also we found that mortality from COPD exacerbation increase with old age >60 years ,presence of respiratory failure and decompansated corpulmonal and with severe and verysevere airflow obstruction. |
