Abstract

During the thesis where the model project was implemented, various activities were undertaken starting with current situation analysis resulting model scope documents. This document aimed to detail certain activities in which their execution would convey a proof of concept and highlight further areas of development beneficiary based on better utilization of assets spatial information within the daily operation routines. In addition; the pilot project assured the necessity of building a cooperation model between utility companies and associated government bodies especially with the Egyptian Survey Authority.
During the pilot project references of similar approaches worldwide represented in addition to implementing one simple model of exchanging spatial information while keeping data sources reserved.
Reveal the differences between the current use of GIS and the values that can be achieved through the enterprise approach which enables the GIS into all business processes seamlessly clarifying the added value of adopting one authorized base map across all utility companies & its positive impact on securing investments of utilities network documentation.
Taking into consideration certain processes before and after implementing the solutions to show the positive impact of the process re-engineering took place due the solution existence, showing aspects of how the return on investment should looks like.
Guidance of how the companies could activate the role of GIS within the daily operation & maintenance activities to guarantees up to date network information.
7.2. CONCLUSION AND RESULTS.
• Using GIS gives the ability to cover and support various scenarios & workflows.
• Setting clear standards and unified techniques of modeling the water network across all subsidiaries extending the current limited use of geographical information to influence all aspects of operation & maintenance activities.
• Enhancing the customer satisfaction, by being able to update them with accurate information.
• Provide reliable information for top management and decision makers that result in better plans.
• Activate the preventive maintenance programs based on growing knowledge base.
• Linking customer information and their consumption habits to the water network would simplify and enhance the production of the hydraulic map so many low pressure problems can be avoided.
• Development of water network database.
• Creation of unified GIS system covering water network.
• Minimize water Network maps overlap and mismatch shift between Basemaps.
• Water network topology has been checked and adjusted using integrity checker module to ensure the proper connections between network elements.
• Preventive maintenance of water network.
• Achieve problem solving technique instead of fire fitting
• Assist decision maker to take suitable action for water network management.
• Provide the ability to set water network priorities to meet the government strategy within budget.
• Water network management has good potential in using geospatial database and GIS.
7.3. RECOMMENDATIONS.
• The NRM data model in the project should reflect all Cairo Water Company known network parts and their characteristics.
• Network homogenization must apply.
• Automatic control should be applied in all network valve elements.
• Applying route system in the network will help in quick response and arrival of maintenance vans.
• As an additional recommendation to rolling out, the regulations and standards should be developed and conducted through a governmental entity in order to govern all related activities to reach a goal of properly documenting country infrastructures that should lead to better utilization of this additional knowledge in a manner that reflects better services presented to the community.
7.4. THESIS BENEFICIARIES.
• Water network management can be implemented in other water companies and west water sector.
• Water network management can be used in other infrastructure network utility such as telecommunication, gas and electricity.
• Water network management can be implemented in the management of university compounds.
7.5. NEXT STAGE.
• This approach can be directed to hydraulic modeling.
• Can be upgraded with a route system to achieve shortly and quick arrival of maintenance vans.
• This thesis can be upgraded with pipe line material studies.
