Abstract Radiological assessment of the patients have chronic shoulder pain is mandatory for such cases as medical history and clinical examination can’t provide sufficient information about the accurate diagnosis. Magnetic resonance imaging is usually used as the primary imaging modality for diagnosis of shoulder joint problem. It provides the surgeon with accurate data about various shoulder joint disorders involving rotator cuff and non rotator cuff disorders. Ultrasonography can be used as diagnostic modality for such conditions. As, it can accurately detects most of shoulder joint disorders involving rotator cuff tears, bursitis, tenosynovitis, septic arthritis provides advantages of availability, cost effectiveness, kinetic assessment of the tendons and vascularity assessment of inflammatory conditions. Also, ultrasound guided aspiration can be used for detection of the nature of the fluid collection in joint space or bursa. Ultrasound cannot be used as an accurate imaging modality for assessment of the patients with shoulder joint instability, as it can’t detect the associated Bankart’s lesions or small ultra structures with in joint space. Also, it is not accurate for detection of bone tumors, occult fractures and bone marrow infiltration. |
