Abstract

MMP-2 and MMP-9 are ECM proteases that have been documented to participate in many tumor invasion and metastasis. Similarly, considerable evidence implicated abnormal expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in acute leukemia. In our study, newly diagnosed consecutive 47 AML patients were investigated for the expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 on BM blasts using flowcytometry. Patients were followed for at least 6 months to detect presence of leukemic cells invasion. We studied the correlation of MMP-9, MMP-2 expression level, and MMP-2/MMP-9 ratio level with various patients’ characteristics. The prognostic value was also estimated. Key words: MMP-2, MMP-9, AML.
