Abstract

The long post-partum anoestrus in buffalo is a major factor for long
calving interval and low reproductive efficiency.
This study was conducted on 29 buffalo randomly from different farmers
during the period from May to October (2012). The animals were
suffering from prolonged postpartum anestrous (3 - 9 months).
The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of P4
supplementation (CIDR) in the course of ovsynch protocols in the
treatment of post-partum an estrous buffalo with subsequent resumption
of cyclicity and reduction of calving interval.
The buffaloes under the study were marked by ear tag numbers and had
been divided according to the treatment and insertion of the CIDR device
into three groups as following;
1-Control group (CTL): include 6 buffaloes have only ovsynch protocol
without CIDR insertion.
2-CIDR-A group: include 10 buffaloes have CIDR within ovsynch
protocol.3-CIDR-B group: include 13 buffaloes have CIDR inserted before
ovsynch protocol.
The blood sample were collected at the days of study as following; day -
10, 0, 4, 7, 9 and 60) for determination of P4 levels and phosphorus level.
Pregnancy diagnosis was determined at 60 days post insemination by
using rectal palpation.
The overall question for this study was whether initiation of the CIDR
plus Ovsynch protocols produces differences in the rates of synchronized
pregnancy and ovulation compared to Ovsynch protocols in anestroussupplementation from a CIDR insert before and as a part of the ovsynch
protocols would improve fertility.
In the present study, providing exogenous P4 improved the conception
rate in the post partum anestrous buffalo as following
1-Control group: The conception rate was 66, 7 %.
2-CIDR-A group: The conception rate was 30%.
3-CIDR-B group: The conception rate was 53, 8%.from the previous result our present study suggests that:
Using of CIDR before applying the GPG synchronization regimen
could be more beneficial in improving the conception rates in
buffaloes. Since the animals may utilize more phosphorus and
other metabolites in activating the follicular dynamics and ripening
the conceiving oocyte in the ovulatory follicle.
· Using of ovsynch protocol (GPG) in postpartum buffalo had a
higher significant pregnancy rate than using of CIDR within or
before GPG.
