Abstract

In this study, alum sludge was conditioned using different conditioners, i.e. Fenton’s reagent, lime, ferric chloride and (lime + ferric chloride). These chemicals were used alone and with solar energy technique.
Conditioning of alum sludge with (lime + ferric chloride) showed the best results as 99.99 % of SRF reduction at pH 7.3 and gave the less turbidity of filtrate 1.9 NTU, SRF = 5*105 m/kg, moisture content =14%.
Other experiments were performed in a solar still. The best results were obtained when conditioning with lime, that gave SRF=2.1*1012m/kg, pH=7, Turbidity=19.1NTU, and moisture content =18%.
The ability of alum sludge to adsorb Methylene Blue dye was investigated.The percentage removal of dye was 87.5% and the maximum adsorption capacity was 67.94 (mgdye/galum sludge (.
Equilibrium modeling was carried out using the Langmuir and the Freundlich, isotherms. The Langmuir isotherm best fitted the experimental data (high value of correlation coefficient and graphical presentation).
