Abstract

Intelligent compaction has the following advantages compared
with the traditional compaction
1. Higher efficiency result to cost savings.
2. Optimal Compaction Results result to better quality.
3. No danger of over- compaction.
4. Compaction control on the job.
5. Intelligent compaction gives an instantaneous and complete evaluation of
the zone being completed.
6. Saving in construction time of the project.
7. Dynamic rollers are more economical than static rollers, since their
effective compaction depth is bigger and the required number of passes is
smaller.
8. Continuous compaction control is a well-proven method for quality
control of soil compaction in road construction.
9. Intelligent compaction measurements of the underlying courses are
important before the paving of upper courses in order to identify possible
weak spots
10. In addition, the Intelligent compaction compactor gives very important
data about Evib, CMV, CCV and KB where
The Evib is an indicator of compaction stiffness for Bomag IC system
The CMV is an indicator of compaction quality for Dynapac and
Caterpillar IC system
The CCV is an indicator of compaction stiffness for Sakai IC system
The KB is an indicator of compaction settlement for Ammann IC system
11. Intelligent compaction compactor is more expensive than traditional
compaction compactor and requires high technique of training
