Abstract The sealing of rotating equipment especially centrifugal compressor has always presented a special challenge for rotating equipment manufacturers and users. Nearly all new centrifugal compressors ordered in the last 10 years have had dry gas seals specified by the customer. Therefore, many new compressor designs have adopted the dry gas seal as a standard, rather than an alternative. Reliability in most services is very high, and utility and environmental benefits are well documented. They are required to comply with environmental regulations, prevent monetary losses, and for safety. Dry gas seal technology has demonstrated reliability and cost savings for most applications of new compressors. Due to these advantages, dry gas seal retrofits to older compressors have become a common practice. In this research that is presented to focus on the principle operation, configuration, support systems and root causes failure analysis of actual problems. Understanding dry gas seal scientific concepts will save monetary issues in the maintenance and the spare parts. |
