Abstract
Appendectomy is the most common urgently performed surgical procedure. Open appendectomy was the standard method of appendectomy for many years. Now laparoscopic appendectomy is gaining popularity after first done by Semm in 1983. Minimally invasive techniques combines advantages of both open and laparoscopic appendectomy because of short operative time, safety of the procedure, better exploration of the abdominal cavity, better diagnosis, differential diagnosis and short hospital stay. laparoscpic assisted appendectomy has been introduced as a technical approach, in which the appendix is delivered to the surface through the working port, and appendectomy is carried out extracorporeally.
