Abstract In this study, Shigella flexneri ATCC 29903 which isolated from bloody diarrhea stool samples was able to cause colon ulcer after oral administration with 12x108 CFU/ml as proved by histopathological examination. Different types of essential oils and commercial used antibiotics were tested against S. flexneri. Thyme oil (MIC 150 μl/l) and ciprofloxacin (MIC 0.4 mg/l) had the highest antibacterial activity. The combination between thyme oil and ciprofloxacin showed maximum inhibition against the growth of S. flexneri. |
