Abstract

The thesis consists of three main sections plus summaries in both Arabic and
English and scientific references:
Chapter I (Introduction):
Studies and previous research on the subject of the thesis was presented, as
well as a brief overview was given for cellulose polymer and its applications
for removal of some ions and pollutants from aqueous solutions.
Chapter I1 (Experimental):
This part includes laboratory tests and measurements have been used to
prepare resins and study their properties as well as the study of behavior and
capacity adsorbed on some pollutants from aqueous solutions at different
conditions of time - pH - concentration - temperature.
Chapter I11 (Results and Discussion):
The results was presented and discussed, and divided into two parts:
Part I:
In this part the synthesis of copper containing modified cellulose (Cell-N-Cu)
adsorbent was achieved. The adsorbent was used to purify different waters
from arsenic at different experimental conditions. The adsorption behavior of
the obtained samples showed high adsorption capacity as well as fast kinetics
towards arsenic in their solutions. Kinetic and thermodynamic properties as
well as the mechanism of interaction between As(V) and adsorbent active sites
were discussed. Regeneration and durability of the loaded adsorbent towards
the successive reuse were also investigated which showed high efficiency
reached to 98% *1% using ammonium hydroxide without changing the
properties of the resin, High arsenic uptake capability obtained from real
sample results conforming the efficiency of the resin.
Part 11:
ENGLISH SUMMARY
In this section the synthesis of modified cellulose (Cell-GTA) containing
quaternary amine f~mctionality was carried out by transforming Cell-N that
contains amine groups to anion exchanger by glycidyl trimethyl ammonium
chloride. The adsorbent was used to adsorb phosphate and sulphate anions at
different experimental conditions using batch method. Kinetic and
thermodynamic properties as well as the mechanism of interaction between
studied anions and adsorbent were discussed. The adsorption behavior of the
obtained samples showed high adsorption capacity as well as fast uptake
towards studied anions in their solutions. Regeneration and durability of the
loaded adsorbent towards the successive reuse were also investigated which
showed high efficiency reached to 99% and 98% for phosphate and sulphate
ions respectively, using 0.1M sodium hydroxide without a change in the
properties of the resin, and were also used resin to remove some of the
contaminants found in the natural sample to prove the efficiency of the resin.
