Abstract The aim of this research work is to study the sedimentation process at the intake of the Rowd El-Farag pump station. A Nile reach with a length of 1.53 km was selected where the pump station is at the middle. The selected reach covers the area from km 7.78 to km 9.31 downstream El-Roda gauging stations (km 934.785 to the km 936.31 from Aswan dam). The reach is nearly straight. There are some low lands (shallow areas) in the eastern bank of the river, at the intake. A two-dimensional numerical model called (CCHE-2D) is used to simulate and predict the sediment transport in terms of the depth- averaged sediment concentration. Field data collected by NRI were used in the simulation and calibration of the model. Statistical measurements indicated that the model results are accurate enough for practical purpose and hence the model could be used to predict the morphological changes of the study area. The model has been applied to predict the different cross sections along the study reach at years 2017. The results show that, the intake of the pump station locates in deposition area. The research recommended that usmg of dredging as a sustainable solution for sediment control at Water Intake of Rowd El-Farag Pump Station although this solution is an expensive solution. Dredging the study area at level 13.50 (1.50 m) below minimum water level. |
