Abstract Summary Endoscopic SinUS surgery is a minimaly invasive surgical procedure that opens up the PNS ostia with an endoscope. Currently, ESS is seen as the standard treatment in clinically challenging CRS. Prevention of recurrent infection after ESS is essential In the management of patients with CRS. Antibiotic sinus lavage In the postoperative setting has been described extensively in the literature; however, drug delivery is associated with significant variability as a result of both individual technique and drug compounding. Several topical antibiotics have been studied for use in the sinonasal cavities including gentamicin, tobramycin, and mupirocin. Topical middle meatal antibiotics has recently been used to reduce infection after surgery. This study was performed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of ceftriaxone soaked resorbable sponge placed in the middle meatus. Our results showed no statistically significant difference between the ceftriaxone soaked resorbable sponge patients and postoperative oral antibiotic patients as regards subjective assessment and clinical objective outcomes and bacteriological profile. |
