Abstract Facial rejuvenation is a significant process that involves restoring youthfulness. There have been rapid substantial changes in the field of facial rejuvenation with doctors and patients increasingly seeking more effective and safer minimally invasive procedures. The goal of aesthetic treatment is to help patients feel more attractive and satisfied with their appearance as much as possible by creating and monitoring a harmonious look balanced and renewed. When there are disfiguring facial lesions, the overall emotional well-being of an individual can be significantly affected, contributing to a decrease in social functioning, productivity at work or school and lowered self-esteem. One thousand volunteers were included in this study. They were males and females with ages ranging from 20-70 years. Volunteers were selected from different clinics e.g. Dermatology, Gynecology clinics whether governmental or private in Qualiobia, Dakahlia and Cairo governorates; Egypt and Riyadh; Saudia Arabia. In addition, they were selected from the surrounding environment like hospital, relatives and friends. The study started at October, 2013 and ended at May, 2014. All volunteers were asked to fulfill self-designed questionnaire to asses their quality of life and self-esteem. About 43% of personal sample have age between 40-50 years old that is the age of appearance of the signs of skin aging. The majority were Bachelor qualified, married and having work denoting that these are the groups who are highly interested in aesthetic procedures. Results showed that the aesthetic procedures improve the quality of life and self-esteem of most of them. However, many of them complained of the cost and the pain during the procedures. In conclusion, aesthetic procedures are greatly required by a respectable percentage of the population and can add more to the improvement of their quality of life. The least cosmetic procedure done by both Egyptian and Saudi participants was Laser Skin Resurfacing (9% and 11% respectively) as about 90% of participants were working and cannot tolerate the downtime after laser surgery together with the sunny weather of both Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The rate of repetition of the visits to the cosmetic dermatology clinic for the Saudi sample was higher than the Egyptians. It seems that this is also related to the high socioeconomic level of Saudi population. Regarding the most frequently participated cosmetic procedure, chemical peel was the most frequent one within the Egyptian sample (21%) while Botox was the most frequent one done by Saudi volunteers (29%) followed by Chemical peel (25%). Chemical peel has the advantage of being cheaper thatn many ther cosmetic procedures hence, it suits the socioeconomic status of most of the Egyptians, does not need specialized medical equipment and easy to perform. Also, chemical peel is a versatile modality as it is beneficial in the management of many cosmetic problems like actinic rhytides, pigmentary dyschromia, acne and scarring (Grimes, 1995). On the other hand, Botox was the most frequent procedure done by Saudi volunteers as the largest category of them was at the age range of 40-50 years where nearly all of them have dynamic wrinkles and at the same time can afford the expenses of Botox. |
