Abstract This study included 40 female patients with SLE and 10 age matched healthy females as a control group. The control group had a mean IMT=0.3 8mm with range (0.2-0.5mm), while the patients had a mean IMT=0.56mm with range (0.4-0.9mm). We found 8 patients (20%) with high IMT and 2 of them- had carotid plaques. In this study there was a positive significant correlation between IMT and fasting insulin level (p= 0.03) and between IMT and cholesterol (p=0.02) in the patients group. Also when a comparison was done between cases and control in relation to risk factors for coronary artery disease and atherosclerosis, we found that albumin, triglycerides, diastolic blood pressure, IMT and insulin all were of significant values. |
