Abstract

In the present study, 334 swabs (tracheal, cloacal, and nasal) and organs (heart, muscles and liver) samples were collected from apparently healthy broiler chicken to investigate the prevalence of Staphylococcus species. Staphylococcus species were revealed from 151 samples. Biochemical identification by several chemical tests as well as INTEGRAL SYSTEM STAFILOCOCCHI kit confirmed Staphylococcus species identification. Biotyping of the isolates were carried out using the previously mentioned kit and revealed the presence of 6 different strains of coagulase negative staphylococci in addition to Staphylococcusaureus. Antimicrobial sensitivity testing against 15 antibiotic agents was performed and it was found that (93.3%) of coagulase negative staphylococci isolates were sensitive to Fosfomycin whereas, for the other 14 used antibiotics, it ranged from 86.7% to 66.7 %. Also, 93.3% of isolates were resistant to claritromycin, erythromycin and roxitromycin and others showed lower percent of resistance. In regard to Staphylococcus aureus isolates, all strains were resistant to azitromycin, erythromycin and roxitromycin .Indeed, the present study reports the presence of different species coagulase negative staphylococci isolates among apparently healthy broiler chickens in Egyptian farms.
