Abstract
Intensive use of chemical insecticides results in environmental damage, decimation of natural enemies, exposure of farm workers, and in pest resistance and resurgence. All these problems coupled with the demand for pesticide-free food have triggered interest in alternative control methods Numerous emerging environmental evidence seems to indicate that the use of botanical insecticide represents an exciting alternative way in the biological crop protection. Some plants can produce, in response to insect attacks, volatile secondary compounds which alter insect metabolism and nervous system activity.
