Abstract

Isolation and enhancement techniques have a wide variety of methods for interpretation of magnetic and gravity anoma- lies. These methods are demonstrated by their application to the computed anomaly fields of a complex three-dimensional geologic model. Techniques employed are reduction-to-pole of magnetic anomalies; upward continuation; high-low-, and band-pass filters; strike-pass and reject filters as well as trend surface analysis of both gravity and magnetic anomaly fields Most of these methods are much more useful in enhancing the perceptibility of anomalies rather than in isolating them for quantitative analysis and modeling Continuation methods have the considerable advantage familiar anomaly units and that the anomalies are kept in normal anomaly form tative analysis. The continuation techniques proved very efficient in mapping the for ease in interpretation and quanti crust-mantle boundary across the northern margin of the Nile Delta of Egypt. On the other hand, strike-sensitive filters are useful in anomaly enhanc- ement. Three major tectonic trends of different tectonic setting (Aqaba, Syrian Arc, and E-W), affecting Egypt are strongly emphasized by applying these techniques especially on Gulf of Suez region.
