Abstract

This thesis
presents
the results of the
palaeomagnetic studies carried out on the volcanic rocks obtained from the Egyptian areas namely; Gulf of Suez, Wadi Bali and Baharia Oasis, as well as the sedimentary rocks obtained from Wadi Bali. The studied rocks span the period from Permian to Upper Tertiary, and consist of different types of rocks such as basalt and greywacke.
The first chapter includes a discussion of the bases of palaeomagnetism. Chapter two explains the different stability indices, and the analysis of linearity and stability. This is followed by a historical review of palaeomagnetism given in chapter three. In chapter four the writer discusses the field work, which she had carried out for collecting a total of 51 oriented rock samples obtained from the three studied areas.
The writer had spent about seven months in England working in the laboratories of New Castle Upon Tyne University and Plymouth Polytechnic. During that period,
she had used the available spinner magnetometers to measure the remanent magnetism of the previously prepared.
