Abstract a literature survey is given which deals with the following field of interest: a) Study of ion-solvent interaction b) Classification of solvents. c) The mean activity of an electrolyte. d) Hydration numbers for unassociated electrolytes. e) Hydration numbers for single ionic species. f) lonization constant of weak acids. g) The fundamental definitions of the standard states, free energies of transfer and medium effects. h) The simple Born model for estimating the electrostatic contribution to the free energy. 1) The aim of the present work is to study the effect of the addition of ethylene carbonate to water on the dissociation of acetic acid from the view point of solute-solvent interactions. 2. The principle of the present methods, purification of laboratory chemicals, and the experimental techniques are described in Chapter 2. The dissociation constant of acetic acid in water and mixtures of aqueous ethylene carbonate (EC) containing up to 60 vt percent EC, has been detersined at intervals of 5°C from 25 to 45°C by measurement of the enf of cells without liquid junction. |
