Abstract
The action of alkalis on 2 or 4 nitrobenzy1 compounds gave rise to a variety of unexpected products such that this problem received much interest from different research schools since the closing years of the last century and up till now 4 nitrobenz1 chloride when reacts with sodium hydroxide in aqueous dioxin media does not give the expected hydrolysis product.
