Abstract The presented thesis comprises three chapters. The first chapter is. the introduction which includes a review of the chemistry of 2-pyridones. The most important methods of synthesis of these compounds, their reactions as well as their biological activity are considered. Moreover, examples of some naturally occurring 2-pyridones are given., The second chapter is devoted to a discussion of the original work of the candidate regarding the synthesis of 2-pyridones from the reaction of £-diketones and cyanoacethydrazide or dialkyl carbonocyanoacethydrazono- dithioates as well as from 2~-pyran-2-ones. Some reactions of the 2-pyridones are also studied. The reaction of cyanoacethydrazide with acetylacetone in the presence of piperidine gave l-amino-3-cyano-4,6- dimethyl-2-pyridone (62) which could be converted under the action of nitrous acid into 3-cyano-4,6-dimethyl-2- pyridone. A mechanism for the deamination reaction was discussed. |
