المستخلص First: Subject of Study: The researcher has found no studies dealing with the use of verse in narratives in the fourth century after Hjira. Thus, the study focuses on indicating differences between verse and narrative and the overlapping between two different kinds of literary genres. Second: Thesis Objective: The thesis aims to explain how Arab narrator made use of lines of verse in their telling of narrative news in the fourth century after Hejira. Thesis Methodology The researcher makes use of the Formalist Approach in text analysis that views the text as an aesthetic coherent unit in accordance with the features of the literary genre to which it belongs. It also studis the relationship between a certain genre and genres of other texts and the concepts of contemporary narratology. Third: Divisions of the Study: Preface: It refers to the subject of study, its material, objectives, approach, and divisions. Introduction: It is divided into three parts: 1- Traditional narratives: Approach and main figures; 2- Overlapping of literary genres; 3- Definition and types of use. Chapter one: Poetic Purpose and narrative content Section one: use of verse in telling stories of lovers Section two: use of verse in narrating political news Section three: use of verse in narrating social news Chapter two: Verse and narration as two styles of story telling Section one: aesthetic features of poetic language and how narrative language is reflected in verse Section two: aesthetic features of narrative language and how poetic language is reflected in narration Chapter three: Verse and character: characterization and Development Section one: Verse helps in characterization Section two: Verse and dramatic roles of characters Chapter four: Verse and Multiple Narration Section one: Verse as a means of expression in monologues Section two: Poetic text as a personal point of view.
