Abstract The global burden of cancer continues to increase mostly because of the aging, factors like exposure to UV radiation, pollution and a rise in the adoption of cancer-causing behaviors (obesity, poor d iet, smoking habits etc.). Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death among females (Jemal A. et al., 2011). Latest statistics estimated almost 230,480 new cases of the invasive breast cancer occurring among women during 2011 and about 2,140 new cases in men. For the year 2012, almost 39,970 deaths due to breast cancer are expected along with 226,870 new cases (Society A., 2011). In Egypt, breast cancer is estimated to be the most common cancer among females accounting for 37.7% of their total with 12,621 new cases in 2008. It is also the leading cause of cancer-related mortality accounting for 29.1% of their total with 6546 deaths. |
