Abstract

The main objective of this study is to evaluate the nonlinear behavior of recycled aggregate concrete-filled steel tubular columns under compression force as well as to examine the effects of different parameters that recycle aggregate ratio and steel tube shape. The study consisted of an experimental investigation, theoretical and numerical study. A total of fourteen specimens were tested under compression axial loading conditions in the laboratories of the Housing and Building National Research Center. Five specimens are of circular section of 100 mm diameter and 2 mm steel thickness. Specimen (CS) is a circular steel tube column only without infill concrete and four (CSPC, CSR50G, CSR25G, and CSR25C) are with different percentages of recycled concretes (0%, 25% and 50%) and with two different coarse aggregates (Ceramics and Granite). Additionally, five specimens are square with steel section 100×100mm and 2mm thickness. One specimen (SS) is empty without infill concrete and one is filled with 25% recycle concrete and contains ceramics coarse aggregates (SSR25C). Two of them (SSR25G and SSR50G) are filled with recycle concrete with percentage 50% and 25% and the used recycle course aggregate are Granite. Also one (SSPC) of the five square samples is filled with ordinary concrete. Furthermore four specimens are not composite columns. One of them (CPC) is ordinary concrete. Two (CR25G and CR50G) of them are recycle concrete contained Granite course aggregate with 25% and 50% percent of coarse aggregates. Finally one (CR25C) of them is column casted from recycle concrete by 25 percent of coarse aggregates Ceramics. CHAPTER (7) SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS -155- All specimens had height equal to 1200 mm and diameter of 100 mm with l/D ratio equal to 12. Typical details of the tested specimens were presented together with the test setup, the measurements and control system. The modes of failure, the ultimate capacities and the general deformational behavior of the specimens, based on the measured strain and buckling introduced. The cracking behavior of specimens was presented. The analyses and comparison of the experimental test results were also introduced. Analytical models by finite element method were development and were compared with the experimental results. The specimens were also analyzed by different national building codes such as AISC-LRFD1999, AISC-LRFD 2005 and European code EC4. Also the experimental, analytical and numerical results were compared.
