Abstract

An experimental and numerical study of the submerged hydraulic jump characteristics over corrugated beds and corresponding downstream local scour process on a horizontal rectangular channel is conducted .To accomplish that, sixty test were conducted for two different types of sandy of sandy soil and 2D hydrodynamic model based on CFD code Fluent is developed to predict the submergence flow and scour process. The realizable k-E model is adopted for turbulent closure of the RANS equations, whereas, Eulerian model is adopted for scour process. Extensive laboratory measurements have been carried out regarding to the characteristics of jumps and scour holes properties as sequent depths, submerged ratio .tail- water depth jump efficiency, energy dissipation. Jump length and scour dimensions on artificially roughened beds for Froude numbers ranged between 1.68 and 9.29. Five roughnesses spacing-height ratios to create different intensity roughness were used to achieve the mean objective of the present research. Strip roughness elements were made from aluminum sheete and were implemented perpendicular to the flow direction. To avoid cavitations, roughness elements were designed in that way that the crests of the elements are not protruding into the flow. The founded properties of submerged jump and scour were compared with the available results in the literature and with that occurred on smooth bed.
