Abstract

Two pot experiments were conducted to evaluate the response of Pimpinella anisum L to the foliar application of different concentrations of cinnamic acid and / or two different levels of urea fertilizer (50% and 100%) of the recommended dose during two different planting dates; late date (25 Dec) and control one (25 Oct) on growth parameters, some metabolites and plant yield attributes as well as biochemical aspects of the anise yielded seeds especially glycerol and essential oil. Concerning the cinnamic acid, the obtained results revealed that its three different concentrations markedly decreased the determined morphological status, the physiological status, also decreased the determined yield attributes of the yielded seeds of Pimpinella anisum plant as well as the determined biochemical aspects. The GC-MS analysis showed that CA affected the essential oil active constituents of anise plant in a random fashion, where it increased some of the constituents as estragole and cis-anethole and decreased others as trans-anethole and anisaldehyde. On the other hand, the two levels of urea fertilizer increased the determined morphological status, the physiological status, also increased the determined yield attributes of the yielded seeds of Pimpinella anisum plant as well as the biochemical aspects. The GC-MS analysis showed that urea increased most of the essential oil active constituents of anise plant such as trans-anethole, anisaldehyde and estragole. Moreover the interaction of the three different concentrations of CA with the two levels of urea fertilizer affected the morphological status, photosynthetic pigments and yield attributes in variable trend, while results revealed that the interaction increased carbohydrates content, total protein and nitrogenous fractions.
