Abstract

Respiratory distress is one of the most common and present problems of newborns, and the most frequent causes of hospitalization and death in those newborn. It can be defined as the condition in which the neonate is not able to get enough oxygen or defined as a progressive impairment of the lungs to exchange gases; therefore, respiratory distress is a serious problem that requires a provision of special nursing care by knowledge and skills. There are different positions for Neonates that may improve Oxygen saturation and decrease the needs to Oxygen supply. Positioning is an integral part of the care of respiratory distressed newborns .These positions are supine, prone and semi- fowler positions .It is important that neonate is moved to different positions at least every two hours, so the nurse must be aware of the effect of these positions. In order to practice good positioning, it is necessary for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nurses to understand how it is used and the benefits it affords. Whenever possible, all caregivers should be aware of the specific positioning needs to their neonates and intensive care should be given at all times to the newborn. The present study aimed at determining the effect of different positions on Oxygen saturation of respiratory distressed newborn.
