Abstract

A-Statement of the problem: fractures of the anterior mandible are a common entity. The anterior mandible is not an area particularly prone to infection. It is more known for the complications of delayed union, malunion, and nonunion.Traditionally, surgeons have attempted to achieve four main goals when repairing mandibular fractures: anatomic restitution, immobilization, prevention of infection and rehabilitation of function. Meeting these goals is essential for successful bone healing and correct post-operative function of the stomatognathic system. Regular fixation with miniplates and monocortical screws in an unfavorable anterior mandibular fracture is not enough to achieve stability of fractured segments. There is no general agreement concerning anterior mandibular fixation with miniplates alone, or miniplates with MMF.
