Abstract

Factors affecting some economic traits in Goats under extensive production system in Egypt This study was carried out on flock of Damascus goats in El-Rahb farm and Toukh Tanbesha belonging to Animal Production Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Minufiya University, Shebin El-Kom, Egypt. The study was started from August 2010 to June 2014. The main objectives of this study were to: 1. Evaluate reproductive and productive traits of Damascus goats under extensive production system such as El-Rahb farm. 2. Study the effect of some environmental factors on reproductive and productive traits of Damascus goats. 3. Determinate beginning and ending of breeding season in Damascus goats under Egyptian condition by through estimation of serum progesterone concentration and behavior observation. A total number of 82 Damascus goats and 102 kids were used in this study. Age of does ranged from 2 to 8 years, 1st to 7th parity and average body weight was 44.85kg. The does were kept out in loose housing space (400m) which divided to many pens (4 × 5 m) , pens having cemented floor and rice straw was used as bedding. The goats were kept indoors at night and kept outside for most of the day. Some factors affecting reproductive and productive traits such as parity, body weight, litter size, season, year and sex of kid were studied. The beginning and ending breeding season in Damascus goats were detected using progesterone concentration levels in serum all over the year using 706 blood samples collected from 5 females. Data were analysis using SPSS program (Statistical Package for Social Science) Program version 11, (2001). Results Could be concluded as: 1. The overall mean of conception rate was 86.6%. The effects of different parities and season of mating on conception rate were significant (p<0.05) while the effect of body weight, year of mating and Buck was not significant. 2. The overall mean of number of services per conception was 1.46 ± 0.65 services. The effect of different parity, body weight, season of mating, year of mating and bucks in this traits were significant (p<0.05).
